Service Description

Cracks tell stories. In this six-week course, you’ll shape vessels from clay and later transform their fractures into radiant lines of gold. Inspired by the Japanese art of kintsugi, this experience invites you to sit with imperfection, honor what has been broken, and explore the beauty that can emerge when we choose to mend with care. Throughout the course, we’ll focus on creating functional pottery pieces through wheel throwing and glazing. In the final weeks, students will intentionally break one of their pieces and learn the traditional kintsugi process—repairing pottery with gold to highlight, rather than hide, its cracks. The result is a finished vessel transformed into a visible reminder of resilience, repair, and renewal. Because kintsugi carries deep symbolic meaning, this course also includes gentle, optional reflections on themes such as letting go, healing, renewal, and finding beauty in imperfection. While this class is skill-based and focused on pottery techniques, many students experience the kintsugi process as personally meaningful or therapeutic. Reflection and sharing are always optional, and this course is not group therapy. What you’ll experience: Learn pottery fundamentals, including wheel throwing and glazing Learn the traditional kintsugi repair process Explore the symbolism and history of kintsugi Engage in optional reflection around resilience, renewal, and repair Take home functional pottery, including a gold-repaired vessel This course is well-suited for both everyday hobbyists and more serious artists interested in a slower, more intentional pottery practice. Classes meet weekly on Mondays from 6:00–8:00 PM. All supplies are included. Students should bring a personal apron and hand towels (you will get messy). All payments are final. Refunds are not offered for booked classes.
