Our Story

Before Selah Studio, there was Muze — a creative pottery and art studio in Chicago where hundreds of people gathered weekly to explore clay, connect through creativity, and find moments of calm in the middle of city life. Muze was where our story began: a place of growth, community, and artistry.

Over time, though, life began calling us in a new direction. We dreamed of creating a space that wasn’t just about art classes, but about offering a true sanctuary for healing, rest, and renewal. When the opportunity arose to relocate to Grand Rapids, Michigan, it felt like the right place to plant new roots.

Selah Studio was born from a deep belief: that art has the power to heal, restore, and connect us. After years of working in art therapy and community studios, we envisioned a space in Grand Rapids where creativity could feel like sanctuary — where slowing down, making with your hands, and sharing stories could become acts of renewal.

The Meaning of Selah

The word Selah comes from ancient sacred texts and is often used between poetry stanzas. It means to pause, reflect, and breathe deeply before continuing. For us, Selah Studio is more than a name — it’s a way of being. It’s a reminder that creativity flourishes when we allow ourselves space to rest, to notice beauty, and to embrace imperfection.

Renaming Muze to Selah was intentional: it marks a shift from “just making art” to creating a space where art becomes a pathway to transformation.

Selah Studio carries the spirit of Muze forward — the joy of pottery, the energy of community, the love of craft — but with a new emphasis on sanctuary, self-care, and symbolic practices that honor life’s journeys.

Our Journey

From a busy Chicago studio to a cozy, light-filled space in Grand Rapids, our offerings have evolved but remain grounded in the same heartbeat: creativity as healing.

  • Pottery & Clay: Centering, grounding, and finding calm at the wheel.

  • Kintsugi: The Japanese art of repairing with gold, reminding us that brokenness can be beautiful.

  • Therapeutic Art Workshops: These workshops are led by our founder and art therapist. You will find workshops such as mosaics, zentangles, art journaling, bookbinding, and seasonal rhythms that encourage reflection and connection.

  • Symbolic Tattooing: A newer chapter in our story, tattoos as ritual and living artwork — marking transitions and honoring meaning.

What We Value

At Selah Studio, you’ll find:

  • A creative sanctuary — not just a classroom, but a place to pause.

  • A balance of art and therapy, where making becomes a form of healing.

  • A sense of belonging, whether you come for a class, a workshop, or a personal tattoo session.

  • A continued commitment to growth and community — from Chicago beginnings to Grand Rapids roots.

Looking Ahead

Our story is one of transformation, just like the art we make. From Muze to Selah, from city lights to Michigan roots, we are growing into a space where art, renewal, and belonging come together.

We invite you to be part of our story.
